Discover the Heart of the Achuar Community of Sharamentsa
The Achuar community of Sharmentsa, located deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, is a vibrant, living culture with centuries of wisdom, traditions, and a deep connection to the rainforest. At Children of the Pastaza, we are honored to work alongside the Achuar to support the Children of the Pastaza Project, a community-led initiative dedicated to the education, well-being, and cultural preservation of Achuar children.
Wild Hope Journeys
Twice a year, the Wild Hope Journey team brings small groups of visitors into Sharmentsa to engage directly with the community. These journeys are designed to be immersive, respectful, and transformative, offering participants:
-
Cultural Learning: Gain insight into the Achuar way of life, their traditions, language, and values.
-
Project Engagement: Learn firsthand about the Children of the Pastaza Project and see how education and community-led initiatives are making a difference.
-
Connection with Nature: Experience the Amazon rainforest alongside Achuar guides, learning about sustainable living, forest stewardship, and the deep interconnection between people and the environment.
-
Meaningful Interaction: Participate in workshops, storytelling sessions, and shared activities with community members, building bridges of understanding and mutual respect.
Why Visit Sharmentsa?

Reflect on the importance of preserving Indigenous knowledge and ways of life.
-
Inspire personal and professional growth through immersive learning and cross-cultural dialogue.
Responsible Travel and Respect
We work closely with the Achuar community to ensure that all visits are conducted with respect, care, and cultural sensitivity. Each journey is structured in partnership with local leaders, ensuring that community priorities guide the experience. Visitors are asked to approach the visit with an open mind, humility, and a commitment to honoring local traditions and environmental stewardship.
